Customer Reviews
Customer Review: We have our house professionally cleaned, so I wasn’t expecting that when I tried this on our carpets that it would pull anything up. Holy smokes – there was a lot of lint and dust that this vacuum picks up that gets left behind with other vacuums. Very easy to push and feels sturdy. We’ve had other Shark vacs before but this is my fave due to the rollers that don’t catch hair! If you have long haired people in your life, you know how annoying it is – and gross – when you have to hack hair off your vacuum roller. Very pleased with the quality and performance of this! — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: Powerful yet light. It’s all about hair and It’s all about the double brush. I live in the house of hairs. Wife, two daughters all with LONG hair. Then a Husky who’s sole purpose in life is to shed and a black English lab. After vacuuming the house with the former vacuums I would have to get scissors out and cut the wrapped girls hair off the brush. Not a pleasant job but a must. This new vacuum has rubber wipes on it along with a brush. No real beater bar that actually damages your carpet. It is absolutely amazing how well it works. Haven’t had to clean the brush head yet of hair so that’s like worth going out to the bar with your buddies. — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: We have had the Shark Navigator for so years or so. It is still running fine but we moved it upstairs to not have to be carrying one up and down to clean. The new one is better than the basic model we had. It has unbelievable suction and cleans wonderfully. It is a bit harder to move and is a bit noisier. Perhaps because it is so new and needs to break in. I think the noise is from the self cleaning on the roller. However with two dogs and long haired women it is worth it. Highly recommend. I have had Dyson, Kirby, Electrolux and Sears over the years and NONE of them come close. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: WOW!! I had a Shark Navigator Lift-a-way, and after 15 years of faithful service, the hose tore and duct tape didnt work. This Shark is AMAZING. SUPER STRONG SUCTION. I had to back the suction off a bit (easy to access, just like the old Shark. PERFECT! I used it on my carpeted steps. Perfect! The attachment for steps is not motorized and actually does a better job than the old Shark. Now I wont hate doing steps!!! I used it on my smooth kitchen floor….works great. GREAT VACUUM!! The price is right. Everything I saw at Kohls, Walmart, were either way low-quality or too high of price. Glad to be able to post a positive review on this. I was worried to never find another vacuum as good as my old Shark. — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: The vacuum is just like the other Sharks I have had. Great suction, filtration and ease of use. I love the hand roller tool, it works great on my cat trees! Also the other tools work well. The only downfall is the cord is much shorter than my last Shark. My last Shark is still working, but it has been used a lot. Excellent quality, I have no doubt it will last for years. I would buy this again. Only my 3rd Shark because they last while getting put through the test at our house. Its been 30 years of using them. This one is powerful and picks up all the dirt and pet hair. Nice size dirt bin too. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: It works great! It’s easy to use and easy to clean. I like that it swivels and gets to places my old vacuum couldn’t. The lift away feature allows easy cleaning of couches, and it gets the tight spots with the attachments. It’s great at picking up dog hair. I never realized my previous vacuum left so much dirt! There is less dust thanks to the HEPA filter. That was a must have. — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve now had this vacuum for a year, it is so well worth the money. I switched from my Dyson to this shark model. It’s easy to use, it’s easy to clean. The suction is the best I’ve ever seen in a vaccum. It’s lightweight. Lots of length to use attachments. The scent boosters work great. I can see where if I had dogs this would be great for the smell. The scent boosters also have levels you can set. I have cats and it collects the hair like no other vacuum. For noise level, I don’t think it’s loud. The quality of this baby is made built to last! I will never buy anything other vacuum. My only con is I wish I did this so much sooner! — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: This is my third Shark. The last one I had was a Navigator. Okay for a small pet-free family, but horrible for a house with a big, furry dog. I used this one today for the first time, and it was amazing! I got it for $200, but I would’ve definitely paid full price. The large canister enabled me to vacuum three rooms before I needed to empty it. The suction on this thing is awesome, even when using the attachments, and the roller thing didn’t immediately fill with hair like a traditional brush roller. This is hands-down the best vacuum I’ve ever used, and I hope it lives up to the first-day hype. — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: After 6 months, changing to 5 stars from 4. This one replaced a mini cleaner from the “D” company, that fell apart after 15 years. I’m older (60’s) and suffered the long Pandemic-19 illness… Physically, I was left weak… so I needed a light-weight vacuum. This was on a very good price (1/2 of now), easy to assemble… It’s light enough that I don’t have to recover for days after using it, but sturdy enough that I think it will last. This Shark works… I’m so happy to have a solid machine that I can handle. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: I’ve been a loyal Dyson user for about 10 years… But this last time, I decided to try a Shark—and honestly, the difference blew me away. I have six cats and a dog. This one absolutely does. It’s super lightweight. The canister is more secure. The deodorizer capsule works. The floor light is amazing. The hose handle release is super handy. Bottom line: I’m SO glad I bought this vacuum. It’s made cleaning easier and more effective, and I won’t be going back. — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: UPDATE 5/26/20: Well.. it broke. And so did my heart. Looking into how to get a replacement now, because I love this thing so much. And for it to die a month later makes me so sad. Very disappointing. Y’all… This just arrived Tuesday and I feel like my life is forever changed. Truly. We have 8 dogs. Yeah. 8. So. Much. MUD. Our floors are WHITE. White floors + 8 dogs + 3 children + mud = It’s terrible. Like… The worst. My daily floor care routine consisted of sweeping and then mopping… Can you say time consuming? And yet still I never felt like my floors were REALLY clean. So, I bit the bullet and decided to invest in my sanity… I honestly had low expectations. I figured it probably wouldn’t have great suction… Amazed! … The sheer FILTH this got off my floors. Despite the fact I have been vacuuming, sweeping, mopping multiple times a day it became obvious now I was just moving dirt around… the tank literally looked like chocolate milk… I went on to do my whole house, and was simply in constant amazement. “Babe!! Look at it NOW!!” I love that man. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: Ok, so disclaimer I bought one of these second hand back in the day and absolutely HATED IT. I thought it smelled terrible and sounded like a jet engine so I gave it away and never thought of it again until now… Our family has a small cabin in the woods with mixed floors… This will eventually change but until then it is enough to drive even the most mentally stable person insane having to switch multiple types of cleaning supplies… We have a toddler, 2 German Shepherds and were just a couple weeks ago allocated a kitten… So we have mud. Lots of mud. And dogs. And children. And mud. Did I mention mud??? So. Much. MUD. Well I decided to give the Crosswave a try again… OMG THE SHEER FILTH this got off my floors. Despite the fact I have been vacuuming, sweeping, mopping multiple times a day it became obvious now I was just moving dirt around… the tank literally looked like chocolate milk and I wanted to throw up knowing this was the condition of my floors… My floor is so clean now, it feels new. No grit, no sticky, just smooth and clean. — Amazon Customer

Customer Review: This vacuum works really well! It’s also very easy to empty the dust bin on it. Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve never taken the time to write a review before but I decided I needed to for this vacuum. To start, I hate cleaning, period. When the vacuum arrived I was excited because it’s something shiny and new for the house. The box was in great condition and it was a speedy delivery. I opened the box and everything was individually wrapped. I started unwrapping and didn’t even look at the instructions to put it together because it was that easy. In the box along with the vacuum we’re the crevice tool, the dusting brush, the straight suction floor nozzle and the upholstery tool. The straight suction floor nozzle fits all the way under my couch and my recliner which makes it much easier to clean. Second, my one year old son is deathly afraid of vacuums and when I turned this on he didn’t even flinch. He just sat there and watched it because it’s not super noisy like most vacuums. Third, I have mostly hard floors and only two carpeted rooms… I started vacuuming with the brush roll off and was just absolutely amazed by what it picked up… This vacuum picked up all the dirt and crumbs… I went ahead and vacuumed the living room, dining room and kitchen with no problems. I looked at the dirt on the floor of the mud room from everyone walking in and out and then looked at the vacuum and continued on and it picked up all of it no problem. I went to empty it and there is a latch at the bottom and top of the dirt compartment which made it so much easier to empty and I didn’t have to get my hands dirty. After that I turned the brush roll on and went to vacuum the two carpeted bedrooms (which had been vacuumed the night before) and to my surprise it picked up so much. I thought the carpets were clean but on no, the shark rotator changed my mind about that one! By the time I was done the dust cup was about half full. My old vacuum definitely wasn’t doing the job correctly. Finally, the vacuum basically pulls it’s self along the carpet so I didn’t have to fight with it to move or turn because it goes so easily. With this vacuum I don’t have to work to clean my floors and it’s a whole new type of clean in my house. It takes maybe 20 minutes to do my entire house which is astonishing. Before it would take me 40 minutes with sweeping and wrenching my old vacuum across the floor. Thank god for someone recommending this vacuum for us. I will be sticking with this vacuum for life if I can. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: Having grown frustrated with myself for only finding time and motivation to write a review when I’m disappointed with something, I wanted to seize this opportunity to sing the praises of this remarkable machine!! We bought this vacuum to replace an Oreck Touch which had failed… I’ve always regarded Oreck as a ‘top shelf’ product, and heard good things about their customer service — while I’ve always perceived Shark to be a cheaply made, lower-end product… I have been proven profoundly wrong on both counts! THIS vacuum is proving a wonderful contrast! Last night I was using the wand to reach some dust-bunnies behind the toilet and inadvertently sucked up one of those protective plastic caps… Following the suction path through the hoses and ‘elbows’, etc, I came up empty — until I finally noticed the cap reposing in the dust container, ‘comfortably’ nestled into the dust and dog hair! THAT truly impressed me! Additionally, the headlights on the base are both well placed and bright enough to be of real use! The easily detachable wand makes grabbing debris behind dresser legs, etc a breeze. The ability to detach the handle portion of the hose FROM the wand makes use of the brush attachment quick and easy. Lamp shades and bases etc are receiving far more frequent attention because this is so much easier! Oh, and it’s SO much quieter than I’ve grown to expect! The dust container is easy to remove and empty. Opening at both ends, there are no cavities where hair can get trapped. Every time I empty this, I am so pleased with how simple, quick and relatively clean the task is! The “Lift Away” feature is a real bonus. So far, the only “con” I can think of is that the canister portion of the vacuum is bulky enough to prevent it from reaching very far under furniture… Given all the other upsides there are though, that seems a pretty small downside. So congratulations Shark! You’re really changed my mind! I never thought I’d find myself gushing with enthusiasm over one of your products. But I’m really enjoying using this. I’m very impressed! — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve been using the Shark PowerDetect and I’m seriously impressed. The suction is STRONG — it pulls up everything, even stuff you don’t see at first. The built-in lights are a game changer for spotting dirt, and I love how easily it glides across floors. It also breaks down super easy when I need to use the wand for tighter areas. One of my favorite features is the odor-neutralizing filter — it actually helps keep things smelling fresh while you clean. The only downside for me is it can feel a little heavy after a while, but honestly the performance makes up for it. Overall, this vacuum is powerful, efficient, and definitely worth it. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: I’ve been using the Shark POWERDETECT for a few months now! The POWERDETECT technology is a game-changer. It automatically senses different floor types and adjusts suction power accordingly, so I never have to fiddle with settings. The transition is seamless. What really impressed me is the powerful suction that picks up everything — pet hair, fine dust, and even larger debris — in a single pass. My floors have never looked this clean! The self-cleaning brushroll is also a huge bonus; no more stopping to cut tangled hair out of the brush. The lightweight design makes it easy to maneuver around furniture and reach under low-clearance areas. It honestly feels premium without being bulky or cumbersome. And it’s is not louder than a vacuum should be. If you’re on the fence about upgrading your vacuum, the Shark POWERDETECT is absolutely worth every penny. It’s smart, powerful, and incredibly easy to use — a true upgrade for any home! — Amazon Customer

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Where to start? I have 4 dogs. Enough said. Cleaning my carpets is a pretty regular chore for me each month. I have always been loyal to one brand… It has nothing to do with brand or quality, but because I use the Hell out of them. 12 year old boxer just started a new medicine. It’s been rough getting his tummy to adjust. In one night we accumulated 9 vomit stains… I got about 1/3 of just my room done before my trusty 3 year old machine just stopped. Amazon overnight to the rescue!! I never owned a Shark brand shampooer. Like I said, I was total brand snob. But this machine was 100 bucks less than replacing my old machine. The reviews looked good. And at the price point if 150, even it it only lasts me a year, I would be getting my money worth. LOOOOOVE IT!! I almost hate to admit it, but I think this may be my new brand. Pros: This machine is light weight. Easy to push/pull. I appreciate having the option to do a quick dry. Low profile so I can get under my nightstands. Thick brushes that seem to get a deep scrub, and not just surface spots. Like how there is no trigger to squeeze to dispense solution water. It’s a simple push forward to spray and pull back to suck up the water. The solution that came with the cleaner did a great job and each stain only needed a couple passes. Taking apart the machine to clean the filter and brush was easy because everything is accessible. Now the cons: small tank. May not be a deal breaker for most. But I gotta be honest, this part was almost annoying. The clean water and the dirty water tank is about half the size of my old machine. I knew that when I purchased it, and thought as long as it does a great job, I’ll get over it. Ugh, I’m sure I will in time. Between shampooing and having to full and dump 4 times, I’m pretty sure I got my steps in today. Conclusion: This was my first go at using it and I’m impressed with how well it cleaned. As for how long it will last someone who cleans often, like me, time will tell. — Amazon Customer
Customer Review: This light-weight carpet shampooer does a great job cleaning area rugs. It cleans like a champ, it’s easy to maneuver, the tanks are easily removed and reattached, the cleaning head effortlessly disassembles for cleanup. It’s light and small enough to carry in one handed upstairs and isn’t a struggle to use. We have hardwood floors with three Persian-style rugs (knock-offs made in Belgium) that were last cleaned by our ancient Bissel shampooer. The little Shark picked up loads of old dirt and left the rugs looking bright and new. It also efficiently removed moisture from the rugs after shampooing, which reduced drying time (over night for us). The downside – This shampooer is NOT for vast, wall-to-wall cleaning. The tanks for cleaning solution and waste water are not large enought for big jobs. BUT, if you don’t mind emptying and refilling the tanks frequently, this shampooer is a great deal. It also doesn’t have any upholstry cleaning attachments. Note – use ‘Shark cleaning concentrate’ in the machine. I tried our old shampooer’s cleaning solution and created a storm of soap bubbles. The Shark concentrate is formulated specially for their machine….it comes with a small sample bottle. If your home has pets, messy children, or sloppy old men in the house (like me), this shampooer is perfect for spot cleaning. It also might work best for condo owners, apartment renters, or on area rugs like ours. I’m generally very happy with the Shark shampooer and recommend it with the limitations noted above. — Amazon Customer
Complete Buying Guide for Best Shark Rotator For Carpet Pets
Essential Factors We Consider
When choosing a Shark Rotator for pet hair on carpets, the most critical factor is the brushroll design. Look for models with a self-cleaning brushroll or PowerFins technology, as these are specifically engineered to prevent hair wrap—a common issue with pet owners. Suction power is next; deeper carpet pile requires stronger suction to pull embedded hair. Filtration is vital for allergies; Anti-Allergen Complete Seal with a HEPA filter traps 99.9% of dust and allergens. Lift-Away functionality adds versatility for stairs and furniture. Finally, consider dust cup capacity—larger is better for big homes with multiple pets.
Budget Planning
Shark Rotator prices range from around $150 for the basic Navigator models to over $400 for the top-tier POWERDETECT. The best value often sits in the $200-$300 range (like the LA502 or ZU503AMZ), where you get self-cleaning brushrolls and strong suction. The NV356E is the best budget pick under $200 if you can manage occasional hair wrap cleaning. Dedicated carpet cleaners like the CarpetXpert run $150-$250. Set a budget based on your must-have features: self-cleaning brushroll and HEPA filter are worth the extra cost for most pet owners.
Final Thoughts
Shark has earned its reputation with pet owners thanks to innovative anti-hair-wrap technology and powerful suction. Your best model depends on your specific needs: for maximum no-hassle pet hair removal on carpets, the LA502 or ZU102 are top picks. If you have a mix of surfaces and want smart features, the DETECT models shine. For hard-floor homes, consider the Crosswave. Always match the vacuum’s strengths to your home’s flooring and your pet’s shedding level. All the models listed are excellent, but the “Best Choice” LA502 offers the most well-rounded, hair-wrap-free performance for carpeted pet homes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are Shark Rotator vacuums good for pet hair on carpets?
A: Yes, absolutely. Shark Rotators are specifically designed with pet owners in mind. Models with the self-cleaning brushroll or PowerFins are exceptionally good at picking up pet hair from carpets without the hair wrapping around the brushroll, which is a common problem with other vacuums.
Q: What is the difference between a Shark Navigator and a Shark Rotator?
A: The terms are often used interchangeably. Technically, “Rotator” refers to the older design where the entire canister rotates for steering. “Navigator” is a later line that typically features swivel steering instead. However, both lines share the Lift-Away pod design, similar suction power, and many overlapping features. For pet hair, focus on the specific model’s features (like self-cleaning brushroll) rather than the name.
Q: Do Shark vacuums work on both carpet and hard floors?
A: Yes, most Shark Rotator/Navigator models have a brushroll shut-off feature. This stops the brushroll from spinning on hard floors to prevent scattering debris and potential damage to delicate surfaces. Some models, like those with DuoClean, have two brushrolls (one soft roller) that are safe and effective on both carpet and hard floors.
Q: How often should I clean the filter on a Shark vacuum for pets?
A: For optimal performance and to maintain suction power, Shark recommends rinsing the HEPA filter with cold water every 3 months. If you have multiple pets that shed heavily, you may need to clean it more frequently, perhaps every 1-2 months. Always let the filter dry completely (24 hours) before reinserting it.
Q: Can I use a Shark Rotator vacuum on area rugs?
A: Yes, but with caution. The self-cleaning PowerFins brushrolls can sometimes pinch and pull on the fringe or edges of very thick, shaggy, or loose-weave area rugs. It’s best to use the brushroll off setting on delicate rugs or use the handheld Lift-Away pod with a straight suction nozzle for rug cleaning.
Finding the right vacuum for pet hair on carpet can transform your cleaning routine. Based on our testing and analysis, the Shark LA502 Rotator Lift-Away stands out as the best overall choice for its unbeatable combination of a no-hair-wrap brushroll, powerful DuoClean system, and excellent maneuverability. However, the Shark ZU102 is a phenomenal pick if odor control and large capacity are priorities, and the NV356E remains the champion for budget-conscious buyers.
