Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I bought it as a replacement for the small shop vac I use for my car. Black carpet shows every spec of dust/ dirt/ grass etc. (Would not recommend) this little vacuum gets it clean. It came with 3 tube sections and a very reasonable length hose. It also has an assortment of nozzles for crevices and rugs. So far, it has worked for everything I’ve used it on. The wheels glide smoothly as it follows me around, but not very far because the cord isn’t very long- I’m not taking any stars off for that because the carpet in my car looks pretty great.Seems well made. Would buy again, but probably won’t have to for a long time.

Customer Review: I almost did NOT buy this vacuum because in the spec’s it was rated at 4 HP. One HP is 746 Watts. So 4 HP is a tad shy of 3000 Watts. That would pull about 25 Amps of current from a household circuit. That was way more than I wanted to pull in my shop where I have other lights, machines and computers on the same circuit. I made an educated guess/bet that someone somewhere made a mistake in listing this as 4 HP. So I bought it anyway because everything else about it looked good. When it arrived, I set it up and put it on my Kill A Watt meter, and lo, much to my relief it pulls only 790 Watts (see photo). So I can use this in my shop when other things are on as well.Does it work? Oh yes. It is great. It has considerably more suction than the little plastic vac I bought at the big orange chain store (which I did kind of like for its small size and general utility, but which never seemed to last more than a year or two of moderate use before the bearings would wear out). The hose on this machine is larger diameter (which means less resistance to the airflow along the way) and nicely flexible and even rotates in the fitting on the vacuum body so that it is easy to change the orientation of the working end. It also blows air out the exhaust very well when you want to plug the hose into that end and use it as a leaf blower or car drier. I was skeptical about whether I would enjoy having casters on it, but they don’t take up a lot of extra room and it is kind of nice that this will follow you around easily as you vacuum a shop or you car. It comes with a useful assortment of tool end fittings. Overall: perfect moderate size (not too big or too small), economical price, excellent suction and blowing power, sturdy enough build, good hose and tool attachments, and luckily it doesn’t draw so much power that you’ll be blowing circuit breakers!

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: This iscacgood product, it work well. Easy to use, light weight.

Customer Review: I’m not too experienced with this type of vacuum but so far I like it. Using it on high for a deeper clean wears down the battery faster. Obviously that is expected. I love not worrying about a cord. Easy empty container. It picked up dust and pet hair that I didn’t see. This is a lot lighter than a conventional vacuum cleaner. It’s a very good starter stick vacuum and has a good price as well.

  • HEPA filter is great for fine dust and allergens

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I’ve been deep in the DEWALT 20V ecosystem for a while now, and grabbing this Cordless Wet/Dry Vac for $80 felt like a steal. After using it to detail the interior of my car this week, I can confidently say it’s one of the most practical additions to my tool collection. It fits everywhere I need it to and has more power than more plug-in shop vacs. There’s a reason the trades use these!Performance & Portability:The biggest win here is the cordless freedom. Dragging a bulky, corded shop vac out to the driveway is a hassle, but this unit is light enough to carry around with one hand while I’m reaching under the seats. Despite being battery-powered, the suction is impressive—it handled everything from loose gravel in the floor mats to fine dust in the cupholders without a struggle. The “Ecosystem” Advantage:Since I already have a stack of 20V MAX batteries, buying the “tool-only” version was a no-brainer. It slots right in, and a standard 5.0Ah battery gave me more than enough runtime to finish my entire car interior with power to spare.Pros:• Wet/Dry Versatility: It’s great knowing I can suck up a spilled drink just as easily as sawdust.• Onboard Storage: The hose and attachments stay clipped to the unit. No more searching for lost nozzles in the garage.• Build Quality: It has that rugged DEWALT feel. It doesn\’t feel like “cheap plastic”; it feels like it can take a drop.A Quick Tip for Others:If you’re doing heavy-duty car detailing, the HEPA filter does a great job of keeping the dust out of the air, but make sure to tap it out after a big job to keep the suction at 100%.Final Verdict:For $80, this is an incredible value for anyone already on the 20V platform. It’s powerful, portable, and makes car maintenance significantly less of a chore.

Customer Review: The media could not be loaded. I bought this to attach to my husbands shop sweeper and get the finner dust off the shop floor. It’s an amazing addition (see picture & video). I find myself detaching it for seperate use and keeping in the back of the SUV for the kids and dogs. So easy to get up the errant cheerios and goldfish, not to mention the accumulation of dog hair on the weathertech mats. We have a farm, and gravel, dirt, etc happen, handles it all like a champ!Small enough for the SUV, powerful enough to really clean, light weight to tote around compared to larger shop vacs, versatile for other projects.

5. DEWALT DCV581H Shop Vacuum

DEWALT 20V MAX Shop Vacuum Wet and Dry with 2 Gallon Capacity, Cordles

This model is the close sibling to the DCV580H but with the unique added benefit of dual power options. You can run it cordlessly with a DEWALT 20V MAX battery or plug it into a standard AC outlet for unlimited runtime. This flexibility makes it perfect for both mobile spot cleaning and longer, stationary tasks.

Key Features That Stand Out

  • Cordless OR Corded Operation: Use battery power for portability or plug in for endless runtime.
  • Wide Nozzle Design: Covers more surface area for faster cleaning of floors and shop benches.
  • HEPA Filtration: Excellent for capturing fine dust and allergens.
  • 2-Gallon Tank: A good balance of capacity and portability.

Why We Recommend It

The dual-power feature is its killer app. You get the convenience of cordless for quick jobs and the reliability of corded power when you need to clean for hours without swapping batteries. It’s the most versatile DEWALT shop vac and a top pick for users who hate being limited by a battery.

Best For

Workshops and garages where an outlet is nearby but you still want cordless flexibility. Also great for homeowners who want one vac for both quick car cleanups (battery) and basement flooding cleanup (corded).

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Unmatched flexibility with cordless and corded options
  • Strong suction in both power modes
  • Wide nozzle speeds up cleaning large areas
  • HEPA filter ensures clean exhaust air
Cons:
  • Slightly heavier than pure cordless models due to AC circuitry
  • Corded use requires managing the power cable
  • Tool-only, so battery/charger or cord is an extra cost

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Is this as powerful as the big shop vac in my shop? Well, not remotely so. But being able to run on a battery is a huge plus. If I want to clean out the inside of my car or boat, this is the perfect tool. And being able to use it as a blower can sometimes be nice too. It is easy to drop the tank to empty it, though if it was full of water, be careful. Finally, it was pretty quiet. From 3 feet away, I measured 66-73 Db, depending on where I was standing, around 70 on average. Looking directly at the blower port might be the highest volume, but that would be expected. Finally, I did listen to the volume when run on the cord versus a battery. It seemed to be slightly more throaty on the cord, but not by a lot. I could probably rig up a way to compare the two power choices.

Customer Review: This thing is awesome. I would say it’s slightly less powerful than a corded shop vac, but way more convenient. The only thing this hasn’t been able to consistently pick up is small nails. When it does they sometimes get stuck sideways in the hose so I probably shouldn’t vacuum them anyway. I was a little leery about the smaller size but it hasn’t been an issue at all. My only beef with it is my beef with all wet/dry vacs, the filters get full of saw dust or whatever particulate matter is floating around and then you lose suction. This is where the vac being small comes in handy. My old corded shop vac never got more than 1/4 or so full before the filter clogged up. There was no point in taking it apart to clean the filter and then not emptying the thing, so the extra space didn’t really matter. Depending on how much dust is around this thing gets 1/2 to 2/3 full before the filter needs to be cleared out. So the size is just right.Being able to carry it around without a cord is huge though. I use it on my car and around whatever job I’m working on. I can easily carry it around with one hand and it makes light work out of cleaning up. I wouldn’t mind having a longer hose or a few other attachments for it, but I’m overall very pleased and would recommend in a heartbeat. I’m using a 60v 6ah flexvolt battery, but the battery life has also been very good from my experience. I also appreciate that it has a cord too. I have a few batteries so I only needed the cord the first day I got it before my batteries arrived. But I’m glad that in many years when dewalt changes up their batteries this will still be a useful tool.

6. RCSV-20 Cordless Shop Vac

20V Cordless Wet Dry Shop Vac with 2.6 Gallon Capacity, Compatible wit

This is a fantastic third-party shop vac that offers great compatibility and performance. It’s designed to work with DEWALT 20V MAX batteries, giving users of that ecosystem another portable option. With a 2.6-gallon tank and 12.1 KPa suction, it’s a capable tool for car cleaning, home workshops, and job site tidy-ups.

Key Features That Stand Out

  • DEWALT 20V MAX Battery Compatible: Use your existing batteries (sold separately).
  • 2.6 Gallon Tank Capacity: Slightly larger than standard DEWALT models for fewer empty trips.
  • 45 CFM Airflow & 12.1 KPa Suction: Strong performance for a compact cordless vac.
  • Wet/Dry & Blower Function: Versatile for spills, debris, and drying.

Why We Recommend It

We recommend it for DEWALT tool users who want a shop vac with a bit more tank capacity than the official models. It’s often found at a competitive price and performs admirably. It proves that the third-party market can offer compelling alternatives.

Best For

DEWALT 20V MAX battery owners looking for a dedicated, slightly larger capacity cordless shop vac without paying the DEWALT brand premium.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Good compatibility with popular DEWALT battery system
  • Larger 2.6-gallon tank reduces frequent emptying
  • Solid suction power for its class
  • Often more affordable than brand-name equivalents
Cons:
  • Build quality may not feel as robust as DEWALT or Milwaukee
  • Hose storage can be less organized than premium brands
  • Long-term durability is less proven than established brands

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Great value for my money. Very easy to use, clean up and barely takes any room while in storage. I found this vacuum on sale and almost paid nothing for it, thanks to some points I had accumulated here on Amazon. I have been wanting a smaller wet-dry cordless vacuum for a while, but the lack of usage does not justified getting a pricier one. I used it on the same day it arrived, and was very pleased with it. It’s super light, has great suction and the attachments get it done. Hose is connected to the body and it stores without kinks. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone that just needs it for small jobs and, or limited usage. I will update farther up as I use it.I like it’s functionality, design and the fact that is cordless.

Customer Review: It’s handy and lightweight, made my life easier. Let me explain. I have a 4 foot crawl space under my house, the crawl space is encapsulated meaning it’s insulated with white vinyl and a very clean space. We keep it sprayed for insects but of course you cannot keep them out plus when you store items there you track in dirt. For 3 years now I have dragged an extension cord and large wet/dry vac around the space. I’m tired of doing that so I purchased this portable battery operated vac. I have a 5 amp and a 4 amp battery. I had to change the battery once to finish. Total job took about 35 minutes. As far as how it’s going to hold up over the long term, it’s a wait and see. But even if it fails I will purchase another portable. Probably this one as the price is right!

7. DEWALT DCV501HB Handheld Vacuum

DEWALT 20V Cordless Handheld Vacuum with HEPA Filter, 6 Attachments, L

This is DEWALT’s powerful, dedicated handheld/cordless shop vac. It’s smaller and lighter than their 2-gallon models but packs a surprising punch with 46 CFM of airflow. It’s a dry-only vacuum optimized for quick cleanups, tight spaces, and as a highly portable tool for tradespeople on the go. The included LED light is a standout feature.

Key Features That Stand Out

  • 46 CFM Powerful Airflow: Strong suction for a handheld, perfect for debris and fasteners.
  • Bright Integrated LED Light: Illuminates dark corners, under cars, and inside cabinets.
  • 6 Attachments Included: Crevice tool, brush, wide nozzle, etc., for various tasks.
  • Converts to Stick Vacuum: Add the extension tube for floor cleaning.

Why We Recommend It

It’s the ultimate grab-and-go vacuum for small, frequent messes. The LED light alone makes it invaluable for working in dim areas. For anyone who needs a powerful, compact vacuum to keep in their truck, garage, or utility closet, this DEWALT is a top contender.

Best For

Tradespeople, mechanics, and homeowners who need a powerful, ultra-portable vac for benches, vehicles, and tight spots. Also great as a secondary vacuum for quick cleanups where a larger unit would be overkill.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Extremely portable and lightweight
  • Very powerful for its size
  • Built-in LED light is incredibly useful
  • Great onboard storage for attachments
Cons:
  • Dry use only (not for wet spills)
  • Small tank requires frequent emptying
  • Battery not included, and high-drain use drains batteries quickly

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: Another hit from dewalt.I bought the little lunchbox shaped 20v shop vac about a year ago. It was a bit of a disappointment. Its found its role around the house but it was definitely not what I was looking for.I was reluctant to purchase another dewalt 20v vac but saw this at a really cheap price.Home run. It absolutely will not replace your plug in shop vac, but is an amazing little sucker all the same. My wife and kid grab this so often its more of a home device than a shop vac. Its super light with lots of attachments and makes little jobs like cleaning lamp shades or fan blades a breeze. That said, it still has enough power to keep a light duty jobsite cleaned up. Will it be a dust extraction system? Absolutely not. It will however keep sawdust, drywall dust, and general messes from growing out of hand. Had it less than a year now and out of 20+ dewalt products this is quickly becoming one of the most used.

Customer Review: I have a Aerus Lux upright that is a fantastic vacuum. Unfortunately, it weighs a ton and you have to haul an accessory caddy along with it. It is a pain to haul it out for that little job. I am always struggling to get ceilings and corners because I have to constantly move and reposition the vacuum to clean. Then there is the fear of pulling it over trying to reach a corner. My parents and brother have been using battery powered vacuums for a while and they love them. My concern was the batteries. I didn’t want to trash the unit if the battery went bad nor did I want to have to hunt down and buy a replacement battery that costs as much as the unit itself. I thought it would be great if the unit used the Dewalt batteries I had for a drill I got as a Christmas present and here it is.This vacuum is great. It it extremely high quality and very durable. It’s light and portable. It’s always ready to go for that little job. It makes cleaning ceilings and corners a breeze. It has excellent suction for it’s size. As I mentioned, it uses a standardized battery pack that is easy to find and can be used for other things. It also has a bright LED to illuminate what you are cleaning. The included accessories let’s you do almost anything with the exception of carpets. This is either a plus or minus as units like these do only a basic job at vacuuming carpets when they can, while heavily diminishing battery life using a powered carpet attachment. All in all, it is definitely great for around the house and it is just what I was looking for.The drawback to this vacuum is that it is optimized for shop use. It lacks the ability for powered attachments if that is a must have. It also lacks a flashy status panel that lets you see the battery life and adjust the suction to maximize battery life. Fortunately, the batteries do have status lights built into them. The unit also does not come with a battery or charger which adds to the overall cost to getting started, unless you already have them, which may put some people off because they are not cheap. The battery life is highly dependent on the batteries you have. My 1.5Ah batteries last under 10 minutes. The 5Ah batteries supposedly last over 20 minutes. I just purchased one on sale and I would say that is accurate. There are also much larger batteries available. This vacuum is definitely one to take a look at. It’s light, powerful and extremely well built. It uses easy to find DeWalt batteries. Definitely a must have if you already have batteries and a charger.

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: I like this cordless vacuum. It does a good job of picking up dust and debris. It has a decent size vacuum head that covers a lot of ground and space. It has a good amount of air flow and suction that picks up items that it runs over. The vacuum is compact and lightweight. It is easy to move around and isn’t awkward to use. The vacuum has a decent size dust bin that can hold a good amount of dust and debris. The vacuum works well on carpet, laminate, and hardwood surfaces. I also like that I can configure the vacuum to be used as a regular vacuum or a handheld. The vacuum itself looks and feels like it is solidly constructed and quite durable. This vacuum has been a nice option that is easy to work with and helps me keep my home clean.

Customer Review: I am very happy with this vacuum because it makes cleaning feel easy and smooth, and I like how it stands ready and starts working right away with strong suction that pulls in dust and little bits without pushing them around, and when I change the mode the power adjusts nicely so it works well on hard floors, rugs, and even inside the car, which makes it very useful for many jobs, and it feels light in my hands but still solid so I can clean longer without getting tired, and the tube connects quickly so reaching under furniture is simple while the suction stays steady, and emptying the dust bin is fast and clean because the bottom opens and the dirt falls out without sticking, and the tools help get into small spaces and corners so nothing is left behind, and for the price I think it is a great value because it performs like a much more expensive cleaner, and the functionality is excellent since it handles different surfaces with no trouble, and it seems durable and well made so I believe it will last a long time, and the ease of use is wonderful because everything about it feels simple and clear, so I would give it five stars because it saves time and makes everyday cleaning much more comfortable and efficient.

Complete Buying Guide for Best Cordless Shop Vacuum

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing a cordless shop vacuum, you must balance power, runtime, and tank capacity. Suction power, measured in Pa (Pascals) or CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), determines what debris it can pick up. Runtime is dictated by battery voltage (V) and capacity (Ah). Higher Ah means longer run time, but also more weight. Tank capacity (in gallons) tells you how much it can hold before emptying—larger is better for big jobs but adds bulk.

Don’t overlook wet/dry capability. True shop vacs handle both liquids and dry debris. If you only need dry cleaning (like pet hair on carpet), a stick vacuum might be lighter and more convenient. Also, check battery compatibility. If you already own tools from DEWALT (20V MAX), Milwaukee (M18), or Makita (18V LXT), buying a vac that uses the same batteries saves significant money.

Budget Planning

You can find capable cordless shop vacs from about $80 to $300. At the budget end ($80-$150), you’ll get good suction and basic features, often as “tool-only” without a battery. Mid-range ($150-$220) offers better build quality, larger tanks, and included batteries. Premium models ($220+) have brushless motors, dual batteries, smart features, and superior filtration (like HEPA). Decide if you value raw power, long runtime, or ecosystem compatibility to set your budget.

Final Thoughts

The “best” cordless shop vacuum is the one that matches your specific needs. For a workshop owner with DEWALT tools, the DEWALT DCV580H is perfect. For a homeowner wanting a versatile stick vac for daily cleaning, the NADALY N16 is outstanding. If you need maximum suction for carpets, the 700W model is a beast. Always consider where you’ll use it most and what messes you face most often before clicking buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a cordless shop vacuum for wet spills and liquids?

A: Yes, but only if it’s specifically labeled as wet/dry. Models like the Amazon Basics, DEWALT shop vacs, and RCSV-20 are designed for liquids. Most cordless stick vacuums (like the NADALY or SMOTURE) are dry-only and will be damaged by water. Always check the product specifications.

Q: How long do cordless shop vac batteries typically last?

A: Runtime varies widely. Small handhelds may last 10-15 minutes. Larger 2-gallon shop vacs typically run 20-40 minutes on a 2.0-5.0Ah battery. High-capacity stick vacuums with dual batteries or large internal packs (like the SMOTURE) can reach 60-70 minutes. Runtime also drops significantly on the highest suction setting.

Q: Are third-party (non-brand) cordless shop vacs any good?

Q: What’s the difference between a cordless stick vacuum and a cordless shop vac?

A: A cordless stick vacuum is designed primarily for dry debris on hard floors and carpet, with a focus on lightweight design and maneuverability for home use. A cordless shop vac is built for heavy-duty, all-purpose cleaning (wet/dry), with stronger suction, larger tanks, and more rugged construction for job sites, garages, and workshops. Some, like the 700W model, blur the lines with immense power.

Q: Do I need a HEPA filter?

A: A HEPA filter is crucial if you have allergies, asthma, or are cleaning up fine dust like drywall dust, sawdust, or mold spores. It traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. For general garage or car cleaning, a standard filter is often sufficient. Note that HEPA filters usually require more frequent cleaning to maintain suction.

Choosing the right cordless shop vacuum comes down to matching the tool’s strengths to your most common cleaning tasks. Whether you need the brute force of a wet/dry vac for the garage or the agile power of a stick vacuum for daily home use, there’s a perfect model on this list for you. Consider your existing tool batteries, the types of messes you face, and your budget to make the best choice.
