Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve now had this vacuum for a year, it is so well worth the money. I switched from my Dyson to this shark model. It’s easy to use, it’s easy to clean. The suction is the best I’ve ever seen in a vaccum. It’s lightweight. Lots of length to use attachments. The scent boosters work great. I can see where if I had dogs this would be great for the smell. The scent boosters also have levels you can set . I have cats and it collects the hair like no other vacuum. For noise level, I don’t think it’s loud. The quality of this baby is made built to last! I will never buy anything other vacuum. My only con is I wish I did this so much sooner!
Customer Review: This is my third Shark. The last one I had was a Navigator. Okay for a small pet-free family, but horrible for a house with a big, furry dog. I used this one today for the first time, and it was amazing! I got it for $200, but I would’ve definitely paid full price. The large canister enabled me to vacuum three rooms before I needed to empty it. Keep in mind, these rooms hadn’t been vacuumed in about three days, and I had been using the lackluster Navigator previously. The dog hair tumbleweeds were excessive. The suction on this thing is awesome, even when using the attachments, and the roller thing didn’t immediately fill with hair like a traditional brush roller. This is hands-down the best vacuum I’ve ever used, and I hope it lives up to the first-day hype.
2. Shark HV322 Rocket Pet Plus Corded Stick Vacuum
The Shark HV322 Rocket Pet Plus is a legendary stick vacuum that delivers professional-grade power in a maneuverable form. The XL dust cup means fewer interruptions during cleaning, and the LED headlights illuminate hidden pet hair under furniture. It converts effortlessly to a handheld, and the pet-specific tools are fantastic for furniture and stairs.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ Self-Cleaning Brushroll: Zero hair wrap on carpets and hard floors.
- ✓ Extra-Large Dust Cup: Clean multiple rooms before emptying.
- ✓ LED Headlights: Spot pet hair you’d normally miss.
- ✓ Converts to Handheld: Perfect for stairs, cars, and upholstery.
Why We Recommend It
This is the best balance of power, versatility, and anti-hair-wrap performance for most homes. It has the suction of a corded upright in a lighter, more agile stick format. For long hair, the self-cleaning brushroll works flawlessly, and the overall design has been proven durable over years of user reviews.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve had this little shark vacuum cleaner for almost 2 years and I fall in love again and again, every time I use it. This little vacuum cleaner not only is lightweight but super powerful and gets everything. AND I MEAN EVERYTHING!! I live in a smaller apartment but I have 2 dogs a cat and 4 ferrets, all of them love to shed everywhere, but this vacuum cleaner gets all of it. There’s been a couple times that it would get clogged, but that was mainly user error and once I cleaned it out and did a little bit of maintenance, it worked wonderfully again. The cord length is perfect for each room with extra to spare and considering how much I paid for this vacuum, I’m definitely getting my money’s worth plus some. This vacuum has 2 filters which I didn’t realize when I first started using it. And so when I finally realized that it had 2 filters, they were definitely very dirty when I cleaned them out for the first time. But after cleaning them out, it works like new. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly vacuum cleaner, that is powerful and easy to use this is the one for you.
Customer Review: AWESOME Vacuum! Had my last Shark Rocket for 7 years. They work well, light weight, strong suction for dirt & PET HAIR and last a LONG time! Doesn’t take up a lot of room to store, long cord and easy to empty. Checks all the boxes! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: This vacuum works really well! It’s also very easy to empty the dust bin on it. The only thing I don’t like is the hose doesn’t completely disconnect from the top part of handle, making it hard to get into smaller places, even with an attachment connected. Otherwise it’s got great suction and cleans really well.
Customer Review: This vacuum is AMAZING! Our house is a mix of carpet, area rugs, and hardwood floors. We have a dog and cat. This vacuum does a fantastic job of sucking up all the dirt and hair! It has great features and easy to use attachments. Shark makes great products!

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: Afier 6 months, changing to 5 stars from 4. This one replaced a mini cleaner from the “D” company, that fell apart after 15 years. (We bought a new one but they are inferior quality now and too big for me.) My review is geared toward older adults with physical issues, either short or long term. I’m older (60’s) and sufferedthe long Pandemic-19 illness after a family member visited and this person and adult daughter took mum to a packed weekend buffet; mum got ill, then passed to me. Physically, I was left weak after it settled in my joints, with back ache after smallest chores for over a year, so I needed a light-weight vacuumas exertion left me with DOMS. This was on a very good price (1/2 of now), easy to assemble, good alternative to the old vac. It’s light enough that I don’t have to recover for days after using it, but sturdy enough that I think it will last. This Shark works, though I wish thehead part of it fit better under my couch, but it’s easy to change to the wand. Will never go back to the awful, expensive “D” cleaners, especially for the company that claims to have they’ve “got just what I need.” So glad I found this vac here. After owning and using for 6 months, I’m adding another star. It’s easy to set up, easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store, and really works well. The vac has a max and min setting. I didn’t realize and was happy using the min setting. After switching it on max though, it blew my old cleaner away off the face of the earth. I’m so happy to have a solid machine that I can handle.
Customer Review: I’ve been a loyal Dyson user for about 10 years, always replacing one with another whenever it wore out. But this last time, I decided to try a Shark—and honestly, the difference blew me away. Dyson is a good vacuum, but Shark is officially my go-to now.I have six cats and a dog, so I need a vacuum that can really keep up with the constant pet hair and mess. This one absolutely does. Here’s what stood out to me:It’s super lightweight. I didn’t even realize how heavy my old vacuums were until I started using this one. It glides across the floor effortlessly and is really easy to push. The canister is more secure. It has specific buttons and latches to open and empty it, so it feels less messy and more controlled. The deodorizer capsule works. I was skeptical, but it actually makes the air smell fresher after vacuuming, which is a nice touch, especially with pets. The floor light is amazing. I had no idea how helpful a vacuum light could be on tile floors. When I vacuum with the lights dim, every bit of hair and dust lights up, and my house looks noticeably cleaner. The hose handle release is super handy. It makes it really easy to clean around animal cages and window sills without having to wrestle with attachments.Bottom line: I’m SO glad I bought this vacuum. It’s made cleaning easier and more effective, and I won’t be going back.
5. Shark IX141 Pet Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
The IX141 brings cordless convenience to pet owners. It features HyperVelocity suction and a bristle brushroll designed to pick up pet hair on both floors and carpets. The removable handheld vacuum is perfect for stairs and furniture. With up to 40 minutes of runtime, it’s suitable for small to medium homes. The LED headlights on the main floor nozzle help spot hidden hair.

- ✓ Cordless & Portable: Total freedom of movement, converts to a handheld.
- ✓ 40-Minute Runtime: Enough for most apartments and small homes.
- ✓ LED Headlights: Illuminate pet hair under furniture.
- ✓ Pet Tools Included: Crevice and pet tools for targeted cleaning.
Why We Recommend It
This is the best cordless option for quick, hassle-free cleanups of long hair on hard floors and low-pile carpets. The lack of a cord is liberating for daily spot cleaning, stairs, and car interiors. While its runtime and suction aren’t for deep-cleaning a large, fully carpeted home, it excels at its intended purpose.
Best For
Apartment dwellers, owners of small homes with mostly hard floors, or anyone who wants a lightweight, cordless vacuum for daily quick cleanups and above-floor tasks. Also great as a secondary vacuum.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Completely cordless and very lightweight.
- Easy to convert to handheld for stairs/cars.
- Good suction for light debris and pet hair on hard floors.
- Bright LED headlights.
Cons:
- Battery life (40 min) may not cover larger homes in one go.
- Suction power less than corded models, struggles with deep carpet debris.
- No specialized anti-hair-wrap brushroll like other Sharks.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: I’ve been using my Shark Cordless vacuum for a few months now. I still love it. I was waiting to make sure it kept working before reviewing. So far, so good. I haven’t had the best luck with the less expensive cordless vacuums. One was so hard to clean I just sent it back. Another had a problem with the rollers not spinning. I managed to keep it going for 2 years but always presented problems. This one is easy. The rollers stop the nanosecond a problem is detected and nothing has gotten wrapped up in them. This one is not so expensive that I couldn’t afford it and is what I was looking for. It seems durable and hopefully it will last more than a few years. It’s easy to use, lightweight and empties very easily. Just hold it over the garbage can and push the button. Nice. It’s also easy to charge. I just plug it in next to a wall and let it charge. My only complaint is actually that the charge barely lasts long enough. I have 1204 sq. ft. on 3 levels. I use a larger, corded vacuum for the top level that has 2 carpeted bedrooms. So, I’m only vacuuming the hard floors on the 2nd level (with some throw rugs) and the carpeted living room on the ground floor. Also 18 total carpeted steps. So, I wish the charge would last another 10-15 minutes for a more complete job. That said, it works so well, that I’m still very happy. The best part is that it’s small enough and light enough to make cleaning the stairs a lot less of a chore than with a full-sized regular vacuum. The rollers pull strongly and the suction is quite adequate. Not overwhelmingly so but does the job. I have 2 cats and need to be able to have a handy device especially for the steps where they love to play.
Customer Review: As a disclaimer, our home is 1700ft2, and about 2/3 of it is carpeted. The vacuum works phenomenal on the regular carpeting and hardwood in the house, but struggles a little bit with the wool area rug. The variety of ways this vacuum can be assembled makes it extremely versatile. For example, using the regular brush roll head while removing the extension works wonders on the carpeted stairs. The short “handheld” version with the scraper does great on the couch. And the extension, with the small ended nozzle, works great for after the initial vacuuming, getting all the dirt along the edges of the rooms and furniture. It lays down almost flat, so getting under things like the dog food bowls, the couch, the dining room table etc are a breeze. So the reason I made the title the way I did, is related to battery life. To realistically clean our first floor (mostly hardwood/tile + wool rug) and the second floor (totally carpeted) will eat up the entire battery. The battery is NOT fast to charge. The runtime is based I believe on the vacuum running in “handheld mode” (aka without the brush head). So, if you’re home is over 1500ft2 and mostly carpeted, you’re going to have to throw it on the charger for a while most likely. I think it would greatly benefit Shark to come up with swappable batteries, think Milwaukee or DeWalt style. If you’re handy you can do this yourself, but it would greatly benefit the company to have a proprietary design for this.Another con, though I hesitate to call it a con based on the portability of this vacuum, is the power. As mentioned, it does great on our regular carpeting, but just isn’t as good as the corded Shark we’ve had for almost 10 years. This is to be expected as the motor in the corded vac draws significantly more power than the cordless battery version, but still worth mentioning. The vacuum is very light and easy to use. The blue light on the front of the roller head is AWESOME, and will show every spec of dirt on any uncarpeted surface.Overall, for the sale price we got it at (I want to say between $175-225, can’t remember exactly) it has been excellent. Just keep in mind how much you’re going to want to run it at once, as if you’re living space is too big, you will have to take long breaks to recharge the vacuum.

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: This is the best vacuum I’ve ever had. It’s so powerful, works backwards and forward, the pet attachment makes cleaning the stairs (my least favorite) easier than ever. Super lightweight, the double rollers are new and work great, easy to empty, easy to change attachments, the auto detect for hard floor or carpet works perfectly. I kiss this vacuum!💋
Customer Review: This is a great vacuum cleaner. We previously tried a Shark Navigator, but found it to be very hard to push on carpet. My wife could not push it at all. Bear in mains that this is not a self propelled model. We tried bleeding off suction, and that did not work. We ended up calling Shark customer service and we were told that this model had a reputation of being hard to push on carpet. Wish we had known this information before we bought one. When we buy a vacuum cleaner, we want one that will do all types of flooring. This Stratos model is lighter and easy to push on carpet. Also works well on tile and hardwood floors. The only negative is that it will not stand up on it’s own, unless you lean it against a wall. That is a small thing and something we can easily live with.It does have a small container for debris, but emptying it is easy. The suction is good. No problem collecting just about anything on the floors.
7. Shark HV343AMZ Rocket Corded Stick Vacuum
The HV343AMZ is another fantastic Rocket stick, very similar to the HV322 but with some key updates. Its self-cleaning brushroll is the primary defense against long hair wrap. - The narrow head can mean more passes on large floors.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: The photo is how it sits and rides in my car and I carry it into homes in 2 parts, vacuum in left hand, dust cup in right hand. I like the weight and manuverability. I love the ease of putting it together. I love the long cord and ease of emptying dust cup and rinsing/drying at end of day.Cons would be the top heaviness, but the style, with the hand-grip in between is nice and balances the weight. I don’t mind laying the vacuum down to move small items out of the way. Older people may have trouble with that. You have to be careful if leaning it up against something, as it can fall down if not propped up securely. At end of day I have the dust cup off the top and it rests on the ground, as in picture. It doesn’t vacuum SOME bath rugs easily, while it vacuums others fine. Weight of bath rugs seems to be the factor, as I’ve used it on both short fluff and shag. (Update: it will vac a lightweight bathroom rug if I vacuum in one direction only, lift at the end, bring back and repeat)It’s Narrow vacuum head seems like it takes a bit more time to cover large floors, but it saves time equally by moving between chair legs and picking up crumbs closer to edges. Works wonderfully on hardwood, laminate, carpet or linoleum. I haven’t tried it on cement floors.I’ve only had it and used it for a week, but it seems durable and a Very good value for the money. I would purchase again and I would recommend it to others. Overall, none of these are cons for me personally. I love this purchase.I have the very 1st shark vacuum?? Where the dust cup lays flat, horizontal to the floor. You tap your foot on the release and it pops up. And an above ground “hand vac” was sold separately. I have that too. These were/are my Favorite Shark vacuums.Until I got this little wonder. I still prefer the original model but I am fast preferring the Lightweight of this one And the narrow head, which also goes Under more items than my old one because the dust cup is not down on the head.My old shark is now at Least 10 years old… closer to 15…and someone made a comment about maintenance. Absolutely! The motor is still strong on my old one but it started acting up. So while I waited for this new model to arrive, I used each clients vacuum at their house. I was surprised how many people have sharks 😊 -different models.Several people never cleaned their filters Ever! One thought his vacuum was ruined. I took the filter out and his was disintegrating. I showed him how compacted the dirt was. Then, noticed dirt coming back out onto the floor. I opened the flap to his hose and used a chopstick and some other gadgets to pull out in clumps, compacted dirt, cat hair and cardboard from the kitty scratching boards. YES, please clean the vacuum parts at least once a month. It’s so easy and your purchase will last Years! I also helped him look up his model and order new filters. This deal of a vacuum is so easy to clean and access the filters. No reason to not keep it clean.Update: I have used this vacuum for a month now. I changed it to 5 stars. I like so many features on this item-the extra LED light at the base of handheld dust cup is Great for using with the wand to see under beds and reach baseboards & so many places. Saves me from down on my knees and up again all day.I need compact, lightweight, Durable and tough vacuums for cleaning several homes a week.
Customer Review: I purchased this product as I’m getting older and wanted to transition away from my old canister vacuum as I would always get tangled up in the hose and was afraid I’d fall. This vacuum fit the bill as it doesn’t have any type of hose. I’ll list my pros below and some observations.PROS:(1) I was amazed at the suction of this vacuum–it really does have it and cleans well(2) It does not have a hose to get tangle up in(3) It has a cup to empty so there are no bags to buy(4) It has very nice bright lights on the floor attachment and also on the handheld portion(5) The pieces all snap together easily so it’s easy to assemble and take apart when needed(6) The power cord is nice and long(7) The handheld piece does a really good job OBERSVATIONS (as I said, these are not deal breakers for me, just things I noticed):(1) The carpet/floor attachment is much small than my old vac–it does a good job buy just covers a smaller area than a larger vacuum(2) If you are transitioning from a canister vac, the handheld part is heavier as the weight is all at the top so it takes a little getting used to(3) Transitioning to a vac with the 360 head also takes a little getting used to(4) There’s no clip on the stick for the attachments–although I think you can buy one(5) No cord rewind (I was used to that, but there’s no place for it on this one)(6) One reviewer said he had to carry the entire vac to the trash can to empty the dust cup–NOT SO, the dust cup does come out and you only need to carry that to the trash to dispose(7) Since it’s top heavy, it does not stand up on its own–you have to lay it down or against somethingIn all, I think this is a really good little vacuum! I don’t think it does quite the heavy-duty job that some jobs might require, but don’t count it out–it does a really good job between deep cleanings. I’m pleased with my purchase!

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: We bought this vacuum back in 2021 and are very pleased with it. The battery lasts long, allowing us to vacuum our whole upstairs and downstairs on one charge, and the suction does a good job with cat hair. We like how it can fit under furniture and goes around things easily. It has gotten clogged at the base a few times but I think that was more from vacuuming up food that got stuck over time, and then it’s really easy to unclog it. One of the parts that connects to the main stick did break after four years, but that might be more from quickly dropping it to snatch my toddler up from getting into something. We were happy with it so it was an easy decision to buy the same one four years later.
Customer Review: As someone who’s always on the lookout for a vacuum that’s both powerful and easy to use, the Shark Cordless Vacuum Cleaner (IZ363HT) has completely exceeded my expectations. I originally picked it up to deal with all the pet hair around the house, and it’s been a game-changer.What I love most is how lightweight and portable it is. I don’t have to wrestle with a bulky, corded vacuum anymore, which makes cleaning way easier. The fact that it’s cordless means I can take it around the house (and even into the car) without being limited by power outlets. The 50-minute runtime is impressive too—I can easily clean my entire house in one go without worrying about it running out of battery halfway through. It’s also great for pet owners. The powerful pet hair pickup feature works wonders on furniture, rugs, and floors, pulling up every last bit of fur. The HEPA filter is an added bonus, capturing even the tiniest dust particles and ensuring that the air stays fresh while I clean.I also love how easy it is to switch between the different attachments. The crevice tool gets into those tight spots, and the dusting brush is perfect for delicate surfaces. Plus, the removable handheld makes it a breeze to clean stairs, upholstery, or any place that needs extra attention.Overall, this Shark vacuum has made my cleaning routine more efficient and enjoyable. It’s powerful, versatile, and just so easy to use. If you’re looking for a high-performing, portable vacuum, this one’s definitely worth considering.
Complete Buying Guide for Best Shark Vacuum For Long Hair
Essential Factors We Consider
When choosing a Shark vacuum for long hair, the single most important feature is the brushroll design. Look specifically for models with a “self-cleaning brushroll” or “PowerFins HairPro” technology. These are engineered to actively remove hair as the vacuum operates, preventing the dreaded hair wrap that clogs traditional bristle brushrolls. Next, consider your home’s flooring. If you have a mix of carpet and hard floors, DuoClean systems (with two brushrolls) offer superior pickup on both surfaces. For allergy sufferers, prioritize models with an “Anti-Allergen Complete Seal” and a HEPA filter, which trap 99.97% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum. Finally, think about form factor and cord. Do you need the power and capacity of an upright, or the maneuverability of a stick? Is cordless convenience worth a trade-off in suction power and runtime for your home’s size?
Budget Planning
Shark offers excellent options across a wide price range. You can find a capable, self-cleaning brushroll stick vacuum like the HV322 for under $200. Mid-range models with advanced features like DETECT technology or DuoClean typically run between $250-$400. The top-tier POWERDETECT uprights with every feature can cost $500+. Determine which features are non-negotiable for your hair and pet cleanup needs and find the best model within your budget. Remember, a more expensive model with superior anti-hair-wrap tech will save you time, effort, and potentially money on replacements in the long run.
Final Thoughts
Shark has essentially mastered the art of the anti-hair-wrap vacuum. Their self-cleaning brushroll and PowerFins technologies are not marketing fluff; they are functional solutions to a real problem. For long hair, the difference between a Shark and a traditional vacuum is night and day. Your choice ultimately depends on your home’s layout, flooring, and whether you prioritize ultimate power, cordless freedom, or smart sensor technology. Any of the vacuums on this list will dramatically reduce the time spent dealing with tangled hair, letting you focus on a clean home instead of maintaining the tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do all Shark vacuums prevent hair wrap?
A: No. Only specific Shark models feature the self-cleaning brushroll or PowerFins HairPro technology. These are the ones you should target for long hair. Traditional models with standard bristle brushrolls are still susceptible to hair wrap. Always check the product specifications for these key terms.
Q: Which is better for long hair on hard floors: an upright or a stick vacuum?
A: Both can be excellent if they have the right brushroll. Uprights like the ZU102 or AZ4002 often have larger dust cups and more powerful motors, making them better for whole-home cleaning with lots of carpet. Stick vacuums like the HV322 or HZ2002 are lighter, more agile, and perfect for quick cleanups, hard floors, and above-surface tasks. For primarily hard floors, a high-performing stick is often sufficient and more convenient.
Q: Is cordless worth it for pet hair?
A: It depends on your home’s size and flooring. Cordless vacuums like the IX141 or IZ363HT offer unparalleled convenience for spot cleaning, stairs, and small to medium homes with mostly hard floors. However, their suction power and runtime are generally less than corded models. For a large, fully carpeted home with heavy pet shedding, a corded upright or stick will provide more consistent, powerful cleaning.
Q: What maintenance is required for the self-cleaning brushroll?
A: While designed to minimize hair wrap, they still require occasional maintenance. You should regularly (e.g., monthly) check the brushroll for any debris or hair that may have gotten stuck at the ends or in the housing. Remove the brushroll (most are easily removable) and wipe it clean. Also, clean the filters regularly according to the manual—a clogged filter reduces suction and can make the vacuum work harder.
Q: Do Shark vacuums with odor neutralizers really work?
A: Yes, based on user reviews and our testing, the Odor Neutralizer Technology (which uses replaceable scent capsules) is effective. It doesn’t eliminate odors instantly, but it does help mask and neutralize the stale, “vacuum smell” that can occur when a dust cup is full of pet hair and dander. It’s a nice quality-of-life feature, especially for pet owners.
Finding the right Shark vacuum can transform your cleaning routine from a frustrating battle with tangled hair into a quick, efficient task. The models listed here represent the best of Shark’s technology designed specifically to conquer long hair and pet fur. Whether you need the brute force of a top-tier upright like the AZ4002 POWERDETECT, the smart convenience of the LA492 DETECT, or the liberating cordless freedom of the IZ363HT, there’s a solution that will save you time and effort. Don’t let hair wrap dictate your vacuum choice—choose one built to fight it.
